MP REPORT – December 2007

In Carleton-Mississippi Mills:

In November and December, I was very pleased to have participated in the Santa Claus Parades in Kanata, Stittsville, Richmond, Pakenham, and Almonte. It was great to see so many smiling faces! Also in November, I attended the Remembrance Day ceremonies in Constance Bay, Kanata, and Stittsville. Remembrance Day is a time to remember those who have served our country and I always make a point of attending as many of these ceremonies as possible.

In The House of Commons:

The Fall Session of Parliament has just come to a close and I am happy to report that our government was able to achieve a great deal. We had a Speech from the Throne and a mini-budget that delivered tax relief for all, promised to reassert our Sovereignty over the Arctic, increased support for our environment, introduced a “tough on crime” agenda, and strengthened our federation. Prime Minister Harper has been showing leadership on the national and the international stages and I am very pleased with our government’s accomplishments.

Canada is playing a dynamic role in the global economy. Overall, our economy is strong and there are more jobs and opportunities than ever before. Our government is continuing to work with Canadian businesses to improve conditions for investment, boost innovation, and increase our share of global trade.

We have also announced the details of the Building Canada infrastructure plan . This is an unprecedented $33 billion commitment to our municipalities for infrastructure improvements. Through Building Canada, the Government of Canada is making a larger commitment to provincial, territorial, and municipal infrastructure than any federal government in the last 50 years. The Building Canada plan is focused on delivering results that matter to Canadians – cleaner air and water, safer roads, shorter commutes, and prosperous, livable communities. This seven year plan will make a real difference in the everyday lives of Canadians with stable, flexible, and predictable funding to Canadian municipalities allowing them to plan for the longer-term and address their ongoing infrastructure needs.

With the holiday season upon us, I want to wish everyone a safe and happy holiday season. Even during the cold winter months, this season warms our hearts and puts smiles on young ones’ faces. I would like to wish all of the constituents of Carleton-Mississippi Mills a Merry Christmas, Eid Al-Adha Mubarak, Happy Hanukkah, and Happy New Year.
