Strong Leadership. A Better Canada

Our Government is committed to strong leadership. A Canada proud of its leadership in the world and confident in its economic future. A Canada built on a strong federation and a robust democracy. A Canada that is safe for our families and healthy for our children.

The Government of Canada continues to focus on what Canadians want - a Government that:

o Is accountable and spends taxpayers’ money wisely;
o Delivers real benefits to ordinary working people and their families;
o Works cooperatively with the provinces and territories; and
o Defends and advances Canada’s interests and values in the world.

The Throne Speech delivered on those priorities. I am proud to say that our government now has five clear priorities for the upcoming session. They include:

1. Strengthening Canada’s Sovereignty and Place in the World.
o Through the realization of our strong Arctic vision.
o Through a responsible, effective path forward in Afghanistan.

2. Strengthening the Federation and our Democratic Institutions.
o Through measures including formal limits on federal spending power.
o Through long overdue reform of the Senate.

3. Providing Effective Economic Leadership.
o By aggressively moving forward with broad tax relief that includes a further promised reduction to the GST.

4. Tackling Crime and Strengthening the Security of Canadians.
o By reintroducing important crime legislation with the new Tackling Violent Crime Act.
o By turning a strong focus to safe communities and youth and property crime.

5. Improving the Environment and Health of Canadians.
o By continuing to deliver realistic and achievable results in areas such as:
 Environmental enforcement.
 Product food and safety.

Our Government is continually working hard for Canadian citizens and taxpayers. I am very proud of this Speech from the Throne and feel that it will improve the lives of ordinary Canadians.
